* LAUC-I hosted the LAUC Assembly on campus on May 15, 1996 at the Student Center. The Local Arrangement Committee members were Barb Lucas, Cheryl Kugler, Julia Gelfand and Yvonne Wilson.
* Two major items were discussed and need to be monitored in the future:
1. Administrative Stipends
Membership voted that LAUC-I endorse the concepts of A. Ritch's letter against the administrative stipends. Our membership specifically emphasized that there are many librarians who both manage and supervise staff without the title of managerattached to their positions. LAUC-I further requested system-wide definitions of terms such as FTE, manager and supervisor. The membership voted 16 in favor of not using administrative stipends; there were three abstentions.
2. Delegation of Authority to the University Librarian..
The UCI Executive Vice-Chancellor asked LAUC-I to consider the delegation of authority to the University Librarian for uncontested, merit increases through Librarian Step Four for members of the librarian series. This new procedure is to be a two year pilot program, with an evaluative review of the program after two review cycles (in 1998). The membership voted 13 in favor of this endorsement, 3 opposed.
* LAUC-I was asked to have representation at two new LAUC Ad Hoc committees. LAUC-I representative Locke Morrisey served on the LAUC Ad Hoc Committee to Review the Many Voices of Diversity Reportwith Regards to Sexual Orientation Issues, and LAUC-I representative Daniel Tsang served on the Scholarly Communications Ad Hoc Committee to design the New Horizons in Scholarly Communication home page.
* A special LAUC-I Home Page Ad Hoc Committee was formed to design a home page for LAUC-I, members are John Sisson, Cheryl Kugler, April Love, Steve Macleod, Lorelei Tanji, Tony Toyofuku and Angela Yang.
* All the LAUC-I Standing Committees had been very active this year (please see reports from each committee). The highlights are:
