Organizational Culture and Collaboration: a presentation and discussion: We function on a daily basis as members of teams, committees, and groups on routine tasks and special projects within our units, our library organization, our campus, and the profession. How often do we get the chance to think about the dynamics of collaboration and how it works well, or sometimes not so well, within an academic library setting? This presentation will address the meaning of collaboration in today's academic library environment, its role in organizational culture, and strategies for enhancing collaboration and building a collaborative environment. What do we need to understand about organizational culture to help collaborations succeed? How can collaborative relationships influence the way we approach our work in academic libraries? Workshop on Work-Life Balance: This workshop will help participants explore the brain-body connection to gain a better understanding of neuroscience research on the impact of stress, how it can harm us on both a short- and a long-term basis, and explore possible antidotes to these negative effects of stress. Attendees will have the chance to examine personal assumptions and choice patterns -- how do we get out of balance in ways that contribute to raising our stress levels? What thinking and action strategies can help restore equilibrium? Attendees will also consider organizational assumptions and systems that influence the choices we make -- how does our work environment encourage or discourage balance? Is there anything we can do about it? |
