LAUC-I PROGRAM COMMITTEE: ANNUAL REPORT - 2000/01

The LAUC-I Program Committee sponsored three events during the 2000/2001 term. The events included two Early Birds to share professional development efforts funded by LAUC-I and one all-day program.

The Early Birds were held on March 22 and July 12 to accommodate scheduling the reports around the various professional meetings. LAUC-I members who received library support to attend the professional development activities were asked to share information about the events in five-minute presentations. Refreshments were served at each session with minimal cost to LAUC-I.

The LAUC-I Program "Open Door Policy, Behind Closed Doors or Pay at the Door" was a successful and well-attended program. There were three speakers from UCI: Jon Wiener, Mark Petracca, and Kay Collins. The two non-LAUC-I members received a gift certificate from the UCI Bookstore for their participation.

The response for registration ran late, so the Committee offered a discount for UCI attendees. The discount appeared to increase the registration. The original cost was $25.00 with the discount at $15.00.

There were 47 attendees, which included the three speakers. The cost of the program was:
Food $1,124.77 (included hot buffet and dessert for luncheon and the deluxe continental breakfast)
Room $200.00
Gifts $200.00
TOTAL $1,524.00
TOTAL income was $645.00. We were in the deficit by $879.00.
An evaluation of the program indicated that it was worthwhile.

The LAUC-I Program Committee previewed and discussed having a program centered around the video
"Generational Change in Librarianship." The program was considered for the Fall.
