LIBRARIANS ASSOCIATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE: ORGANIZATION, PURPOSE, ACTIVITIES

The Librarians Association of the University of California, Irvine (LAUC-I) is a division of the statewide LAUC organization. The governing body of the organization is the Executive Board which is composed of the Chair, the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, the Secretary, the immediate Past Chair, and two members-at-large. The officers of lAUC-I are elected by the membership. Meetings are usually held monthly and more often if necessary. LAUC-I committees are composed of elected and volunteer librarians. When needs arise special task forces and ad-hoc committees may be established. LAUC-I Committees are charged with responsibilities for encouraging professional development and research by librarians; offering programs; discussing library-wide policies and services; reviewing academic documentation for the review of all librarians. Social functions are hosted by LAUC-I to welcome new librarians and celebrate special occasions.

Most of the work of LAUC is accomplished through local and statewide committees. The local Committee on Professional Development and Research encourage librarians to submit applications for research projects and recommends support for professional development activities and expenses. In resent years, financial support for librarians' research has increased. Awards are made on a competitive basis through a formal application process.
